Intuitive Eating co-author Elyse Resch joins us to discuss her history with the natural-food movement, how trying to eat “naturally” led her into orthorexia and other forms of disordered eating, how intuitive eating is being co-opted by wellness culture, what to consider if you’re interested in “natural” foods, and more.
Hi Christy and thank you for another great episode. I am a consultant in Family Medicine and specialized in eating disorders as well. Through my long journey of unlearning and relearning, I became quite informed about intuitive eating, weight inclusive care… I am just wandering if registering to your course or becoming a certified intuitive eating coach, would give me few extra needed skills to help my patients, and how should I go about it
Hi Carole! Thanks for your note and the great question. I think getting some additional training in IE could definitely be helpful as continuing education. I did the IE certification with Evelyn and highly recommend it, especially for the nuanced case studies and the group coaching calls, which are great for working through situations you may not have encountered or considered. My course offers continuing ed for dietitians (though you might be able to apply to get MD credits for it too, not sure) and is more geared toward helping participants work on their own relationships with food and uncover any lingering diet-culture beliefs or dieting behaviors, which you can then use to help patients/clients. Hope that’s helpful, and please lmk if you have any other questions!
