Hi, Christy. Still feeling numb and trying to figure out what it all means. In particular, I've been shocked to discover how many peoplethat I thought were evidence-based scientists embracing MAHA. Could you, at some point, please do a deep dive into this movement that seems to be attracting not just anti-vaxxers and wellness quacks, but also highly credentialed medical professionals like Dr. Casey Means? (Just read that she's angling for the post of surgeon general. Figures.)

Hi Conner! Thanks for your thoughts, and I definitely am planning to do a piece about this in the near future. It is confusing when people with actual MDs get involved in this stuff! And there are also some red flags in Means's (and others') work that I'm going to try to articulate.

Another book that had a similar effect on me was Peter Attia's "Outlive." I read it because many of my clients (I'm a nutritionist) had read the book and wanted me to help them implement its recommendations. The only way I was able to get through it was to alternate each chapter of Outlive with an episode of Maintenance Phase to ground me! 😂 (Love that podcast!)

Thanks, Christy. I know, even before the election I found her book hard to swallow -- while well written, and containing some good, evidence-based information, there's also a bunch of elitist BS and hundreds of rules that triggered my dormant orthorexia. Not to mention that she's built her career on continuous glucose monitoring, which, to me, is another toxic aspect of diet culture and the never-ending striving for "health perfection." I never felt as disordered as during the 10 days when I wore a CGM and my Inner Orthorexic kept screaming: "You're eating too many carbs! You're not exercising enough! Build more muscle! Fast longer! You're doing this all wrong!" I kept having to remind it that I come from a long line of diabetics and have Hashimoto's, which means there are a bunch of factors influencing my glucose that I can't control... Thank you for creating a space of sanity and self-compassion here. Sending deep gratitude your way. 😊
